Spoiler: I made sleep my #1 priority.
ALSO if you aren’t interested in sleep, there’s a cool goal-setting template at the end of this post.
So: sleep. It’s my #1. Not God. Not family. Not job. Nope: sleep is #1.
Simple as that.
And yet, not so simple.
At first, I thought sleep wasn’t so important (boy was I wrong). And then I thought, well only parents of terrible sleepers need to make sure they’re getting enough sleep (again: wrong).
Yes, caring for a child does make me more aware of my sleep habits.
But it’s also made me more aware of how many adults I know who are like, “It’s ok, I can function on only 5 hours” (or whatever nonsense number they say).
The research is real. Unless you are one of those unicorns, you DO need at least 7 hours if you don’t want to be physically impaired.
Blah-blah-blah, you don’t need me to tell you what you already know about sleep research. (Just in case you do, here’s the research.)
But in this, THE resolution season of the year, I thought it was worthwhile to say it:
Making sleep my #1 priority literally changed my life for the better.
And if you’re doing life sleep-deprived, you too will change your life for the better if you make sleep #1.
Enough on the life-changing! Here’s a template.
Here’s a cool template I made on Airtable for tracking my 2019 projects.
(Have you tried Airtable? Think spreadsheet, but way prettier and way easier to use. Also free for individuals and has a great app.)
